With a view to studying current phenomena and problems, and developing proposals through critical and committed approaches, the PhD in Cognition and Society focuses on applying cognitive concepts and theories in social and political fields. On a general level, the programme aims to delve into the latest theory in behavioural science as a lever to address major issues today from an interdisciplinary perspective.
It comprises a set of training activities geared towards doctorands acquiring the necessary skillset to produce an original and high-quality research project. In this sense, they will make a standout contribution to academic and scientific knowledge, and lay the foundations for their early research career.
What skills will you acquire?
The programme aims to train future researchers, ensuring they acquire the necessary skills and abilities for independent research in the following categories: (1) content: delving into the selected topic to attain groundbreaking knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective in order to design and implement an original research project; (2) methodology: mastering an advanced research method to undertake their project; (3) cross-cutting: understanding and reflecting on the latest publications from a critical and analytical approach, being committed to scientific progress, having the ability to explain their own research, interact with the scientific community and promote open science, and making a commitment to human rights.
What career opportunities will you have?
A PhD enables graduates to start their academic careers as lecturers (e.g. as junior lecturers) or researchers (e.g. through post-doctoral researcher contracts).
The PhD in Cognition and Society also aims to equip graduates with the skills to undertake research at public and/or private centres and organisations committed to social and political research.

High-quality official study
Legislation requires that official Spanish degree programmes receive a positive assessment from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA, by its Spanish acronym). This process is known as verification, and it serves to ensure that education programmes are properly designed to provide the competencies and reach the learning goals around which the programmes are built.
The European Higher Education Area requires that there be a system in place to ensure the quality of degree programmes.
