Initial Review
After finishing the first year, PhD students need to do the annual PhD activity review.
The Academic Commission for the PhD Programme shall assess the research plan and the activities document.
A positive assessment is essential to be able to continue on the programme.
Documentation to submit
Students who first enrolled on the programme in the 2021-22 academic year or later
- You must upload your research plan to Acadèmic > Research and activities plan. View the instructions for drawing up and registering your research pla.
- You must upload your updated activities document, including all the activities undertaken, to Acadèmic > Research and activities plan. View the instructions for incorporating activities into the activities document.
Students who first enrolled on the programme prior to the 2021-22 academic year
- Research plan: Students who still need to register it must draw up a research plan that at least includes the methodology to be used and the objectives to be attained, as well as the resources and schedule to achieve them.
The research plan must also include the title of the thesis, the date and the handwritten signatures, or any valid electronic signature - electronic ID card, natural person certificate issued by the Spanish Royal Mint (FNMT), public employee certificate, or any other electronic signature certificate issued by the certification bodies accepted by the Spanish General State Administration - of the doctorand, and the thesis tutor and supervisor(s). - A GREC CV (full version in CVN format).
- Certificates for all the activities undertaken within the framework of the PhD shown in GREC. The following activities must be accredited with certificates: cross-cutting and specific PhD programme activities, attendance at conferences, seminars, overseas stays, etc.
Where the document includes handwritten signatures, you need to submit the duly signed original to the admin services at the Doctoral School, after notification that the research plan has been approved.
Where is the annual review assessment carried out?
Students who first enrolled on the programme in the 2021-22 academic year or later
The tutor and supervisor(s) must upload the reports and appraisal in the 'Tutor/Supervisor Reports and Appraisals' section, within Acadèmic > Research and Activities Plan.
The review by the Academic Commission for the PhD Programme must be done in the 'Review by the Academic Commission' section, within Acadèmic > Research Plan and Activities.
The appraisal by the Academic Commission for each annual review shall be registered within Acadèmic > View record.

What happens in the event of a negative assessment?
In the event of a negative assessment, the PhD student must submit all the necessary documents for the Academic Commission to carry out a new review within six months.
Where a negative assessment occurs again, the student must be definitively withdrawn from the PhD programme, as per what is set out in article 17.5 of Regulatory Agreement 13084.
