L'objectiu fonamental d'aquest programa de doctorat és formar investigadors/as experts/as en Estudis de Gènere. Aquesta proposta ve a respondre i a satisfer la demanda generada per la política científica desenvolupada des de fa més d'una dècada per la Unió Europea i per la legislació espanyola, que requereixen d'una formació adequada al més alt nivell acadèmic.
Un aspecte fonamental d'aquest programa és el seu caràcter interdisciplinari, que abasta temàtiques vinculades a les ciències socials, jurídiques, humanes i de la salut. Aquest caràcter interdisciplinari respon al fet que els objectius del programa s'incardinen dins de la promoció de la igualtat de gènere que demanden les polítiques comunitàries europees i la legislació nacional, així com els compromisos internacionals adquirits per Espanya en matèria d'igualtat i no discriminació entre dones i homes. En aquesta línia, aquest Doctorat adopta com a objectiu principal l'enfocament de la transversalitat de gènere o mainstreaming, que exigeix i requereix d'una recerca i capacitació professional interdisciplinària en estudis de gènere.
Aquesta interdisciplinarietat imposa el caràcter interuniversitari d'aquest programa i l'agrupació d'universitats, instituts i seminaris responsables del doctorat que garantirà una adequada resposta a les diferents demandes formatives.
Entry Profile and Admission Criteria
The entry and admission procedure for PhD programmes is governed by what is set out in current regulations (articles 6 and 7 in Royal Decree 99/2011 of 28th January that governs Official PhD Programmes). As a general rule, all applicants must accredit having passed a minimum 300 ECTS credits from all their prior qualifications, at least 60 of which must be at master's degree level.
Applicants are advised to have taken, and therefore acquired the capabilities, skills and abilities inherent to, a master's degree in gender studies. In accordance with the relevant regulatory requirements, applicants to this PhD programme who have not taken a degree in gender studies providing them with foundational skills, may also be considered where they are able to accredit having passed at least six (6) credits from subjects in the field of gender studies.
The Academic Coordination Committee for the PhD Programme will assess applications from students who fulfil these requirements, in accordance with the following aspects and merits (applicable in all instances, regardless of whether they will be studying part- or full time):
- Suitable academic profile (30%)
- Academic record (40%)
- Accredited language level, a minimum B1 level of English (10%)
- Research merits (10%): seminars, conferences, stays at overseas centres, publications, etc.
- Professional accomplishments (10%).

Support and guidance information
The academic committee of the Doctoral Programme will assign a tutor to the applicant (once he or she is admitted). The tutor will be a doctor with accredited research experience and involved in the doctoral programme. Within six months from the first enrolment, the academic committee of the doctorate will assign to every student a thesis supervisor, which may or may not be the same as the tutor.
Supervision and monitoring of doctorand training activities and their PhD theses shall be in line with the UIB procedures for PhDs (RD 99/2011), the UIB Doctoral Degree Regulations (https://seu.uib.cat/fou/acord/13084/) and the verified degree report that you may consult on the "Results" webpage.
