The PhD in Human Cognition and Evolution is aimed specifically at research into human cognition. Students will specialise in one or more areas inherent to cognition including: perception; emotion; motivation; evolutionary cognition; thought; social cognition; neuroscience; pathological cognition and cultural cognition. The aim is for doctorands to submit an unpublished quality work which, on the one hand, is an original and notable contribution to academic and scientific knowledge, and which, on the other, is the start of their research career that leads them to become a benchmark in the topic in question. This goal shall be embodied through a series of international publications.
What skills will you acquire?
In terms of procedures, doctorands shall acquire the method (i.e. the path to follow) to organise and develop a research process in the area of human cognition and evolution. In this sense, they shall follow and debate the guiding principles they will take alongside their PhD supervisor/s. Without this guidance/organisation, it would be difficult to suitably handle relevant content with regard to producing a solid PhD thesis. In turn, doctorands shall be in contact with other students on the programme through scheduled seminars, which may also be useful when it comes to decision-making both in the research framework itself as well as in the wider academic framework.
What career opportunities will you have?
The main idea is for doctorands to then continue on research projects through postdoctoral contracts at other domestic or international universities. Doctorands may also view the PhD as a way to improve their future personal pathway and/or professional career.

High-quality official study
Legislation requires that official Spanish degree programmes receive a positive assessment from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA, by its Spanish acronym). This process is known as verification, and it serves to ensure that education programmes are properly designed to provide the competencies and reach the learning goals around which the programmes are built.
