This section is aimed at students with foreign degrees who would like to take official postgraduate studies (Master's or Doctorate) at the UIB. Such students are not required to have their foreign degrees officially recognised by the Spanish education authorities. This admission shall not, in any case, involve the recognition of the prior degree possessed by the interested party or its recognition for any other purposes than access to Doctorate studies. Students with foreign degrees recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education will follow the pre-registration process undertaken by students with Spanish degrees.

If you are interested in having your foreign degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) officially recognised by the Spanish education authorities, please contact the Spanish Ministry of Education.

Students with a foreign degree who have been admitted to take official postgraduate studies at the UIB, in order to be able to formalise their registration, must present the documents listed in stage "5. Presentation of original documents".

In the case of students whose degree or academic diploma was issued by an institution belonging to a country other than those listed below, they must present the duly legalised degree or academic diploma:

• Member States of the European Union: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Cyprus
• signatories to the agreement on the European Economic Area: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway
• signatories to the bilateral agreement with the European Union: Switzerland

Legalisation of foreign documents, a process whereby a document is awarded validity, in this case of an academic nature, is governed under the international agreements applied between the country issuing the academic document and the country in which its authenticity is to be proved. Formalities vary according to the country of origin and/or destination of the studies or degrees.

Types of international agreements

According to the State of origin of the documents, the necessary formalities for legalisation could vary, depending on the existence of an applicable international agreement. Thus, the following legalisation procedures and situations are to be found:

• Member States of the European Union and signatories to the agreement on the European Economic Area or bilateral agreement with the European Union.
• Countries that have signed the Hague Convention of 05/Oct/1961.
• Countries that have signed the Andrés Bello Convention.
• Other countries.
• Other situations.
