Doctoral Theses
One of the responsibilities of the office of the secretary of the Universities Council is to establish a PhD thesis record and publish all theses that have received a pass mark (Article 8.J in the Universities Council Regulations: Royal Decree 1504/2003, published in BOE [Official State Gazette] no. 292 on 6th December 2003).
The TESEO database at the Universities Council collects and enables information searches for PhD theses that have been defended and passed at Spanish universities since 1976.
Article 13.6 of Royal Decree 56/2005 of 21st January that governs official postgraduate studies establishes the PhD thesis record. The article sets out that once the PhD has been passed, the university must archive it and send a corresponding file to the Ministry of Education and the Universities Council.
An app has been developed with a view to facilitating TESEO management and searches. The app uses a new file database management system aimed at cutting the time between a thesis receiving a pass mark and its publication in TESEO.
The information comes directly from the Postgraduate Studies Commissions at each university, which send an electronic and print version of the PhD thesis file to the Universities Council. Both files need to be validated through a unique reference code for each thesis so as to automatically upload the information to the TESEO database.
How to Publish your Thesis
Once the thesis has been defended and passed, successful doctorands must send an abstract of no more than 25 lines to the centre admin services within ten days following their thesis viva. The file must be sent electronically in accordance with the guidelines set out in the 'General Procedures' section on EDUIB website.
If you have any queries, you may contact the UIB Doctoral School through the contact form. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
