How long does the PhD last?
By default, all PhD students are full-time, except for those who request part-time student status for justified reasons: work, dependents, etc.
Full-time: three years, with the possibility of a one-year extension that may, exceptionally, be extended a further year.
Part-time: five years, with the possibility of a two-year extension that may, exceptionally, be extended a further year. In order to request part-time student status, you must have formalised your PhD registration. (More information.)
Temporary leave: this can be requested for a maximum of one year, which may be extended a further year. After the temporary leave period ends, students must request to re-join the PhD and register for the corresponding academic year. (More information.)
Extensions, temporary leave and part-time student status must be requested from the Academic Commission over the <https://postgrau.uib.es> platform.
For further information please see the Doctoral School attendance requirements section.
